Dear,
there are still a few places available to apply for this year’s General Assembly in Riga, Latvia. Allthough the majority of participants have already been accepted, the deadline for applying has been prolonged until the 8th of August. You can apply here.
LOCATION
The old town itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while city’s Art Nouveau architecture won’t leave anybody without amaze. You will be able to enjoy the great contrast of the city – during weekdays it can become busy with rushing people while during weekends it turns into a hotspot for leisure – the parties in the Old Town end only with the sunrise. During the programme you will be able to visit nearby city Sigulda which has one of the most picturesque landscapes of the primeval Gauja river valley. Amongst Latvians it is one of the most popular holiday destinations during autumn, where colourful leaves, beautiful landscape, and the sight of two castles make people call it the “Switzerland of Latvia”. Participants will stay in the Avitar Hostel, which is situated in the “quiet centre” of Riga, just 2,5km from the Old Town, and is easily reachable by public transport from and to airport.
PROGRAMME
The digital age has brought forward both – new opportunities and new challenges. As the media industry is becoming evermore competitive, and the flow of information seems to become even more rapid, journalists have to overcome difficult challenges – the shift from printed media towards digital media, increasing amount of information which has to be delivered, and the decreasing attention span of the readers. This General Assembly will focus on providing deeper insight on these issues and the possible ways to overcome them. These, and additional topics will be discussed in some lectures led by experienced professionals, while additional workshops will be held to focus on teaching how to present gathered data in more appealing way in form of data visualisation. As the General Assembly is the main institute of FEJS International as every year time will be devoted to discussing and deciding on FEJS international organization and future plans. The GA will host a voting for new Executive Board members for the year 2016/2017 and locations for events GA 2017 and AC 2018. If anybody is thinking of running for an EB position or organising a future event, don’t hesitate to contact the current EB for more information. We will also present, discuss and decide on some of the main stepping stones for our organisation in the future.
This year is also very special, as it holds the 30th anniversary of our Forum for European Journalism Students. We will honour this great anniversary with a special celebration dinner.

The participation fee for the event is 130 euro, which covers food, accomodation and all the activities in the programme. Once you are accepted to participate, you will have to pay a deposit of 80 euro on our bank account until 10th of August.
